Margarita Fresco

I do not need to take pictures of Havana to carry it in my heart and in my thoughts.

These pictures, taken with respect above all, may not be enough to reveal the reality of Cuba; this is harder to get to know from the point of view of a tourist.

This society wakes up every day determined to survive hard reality in the hope of a better life.

I admire and appreciate these people who struggle day to day in the different ways I show; I appreciate them for their Creole knack of finding ways to survive, while their sense of humour – implicit in Cubans – comes out every day despite the limitations of an island suffering from great isolation.

Havana, despite its deterioration today, remains the city of my dreams.
